Proclamation of King Charles III, 2022

  • Published: May 5, 2023

Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully at Balmoral in Scotland on Thursday 9th September 2022. She was the longest serving Monarch in the United Kingdom having reigned for 70 years.

On Sunday 11th September 2022, hundreds of local people gathered in Norfolk Square to hear the proclamation of the new King Charles III. The Deputy Lieutenant of Derbyshire, Jackie Bird MBE, began proceedings with a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II. The Mayor, Councillor Ollie Cross, then read out the proclamation ending with three cheers for the new King.

The ceremony was brought a close with a prayer from Father Martin Sylvester, the priest of the parishes of Saint Mary Crowned and All Saints in Glossop.

Local dignitaries, politicians and members of the public then laid flowers by the Cenotaph in tribute to the late Queen.
