Glossop Heritage Trust’s seventh Blue Plaque commemorated the achievements of Glossop North End football club during its time in the First and Second Division of the football league.

Provided with the financial support of a local mill owner, Sir Samuel Hill-Wood, the club played alongside teams like Manchester City for one season in the First Division before playing Second Division football until the First World War. Glossop remains to this day the smallest town to have played at the top level of English football. The plaque records the achievement of the club and their benefactor.

The blue plaque was unveiled at Glossop North End’s Asgard Stadium, Surrey Street, Glossop, SK13 8GG on Saturday 12th July 2025. The unveiling was performed by the Mayor Dom Elliot-Starkey.

There were refreshments after with a display of items from the history of Glossop North End.
The event continued with the afternoon match between Glossop North End and Manchester United Legends. Glossop North End were victorious over the Legends.
